Question 1

How often should I clean an epoxy garage floor in St. Louis?

Accepted Answer

Clean your garage floor every 1 to 2 weeks, depending on how you use it. A quick sweep and a mop now and then with a pH-neutral cleaner keeps grit, dust, and road salt from grinding into the coating. That matters most through St. Louis winters.

Question 2

How often do you need to recoat an epoxy floor?

Accepted Answer

Most people won’t need to recoat for 7 to 10 years, especially with a polyaspartic or urethane topcoat. Busy garages and workshops may need it sooner. A fresh topcoat brings back the gloss and adds protection before the coating shows real wear.

Question 3

What causes epoxy floors to peel?

Accepted Answer

Peeling almost always comes from poor surface prep. If the concrete isn’t ground, cleaned, and tested for moisture, the epoxy can’t form a strong bond. DIY kits and rushed jobs often peel within the first year, and St. Louis moisture and weather swings make a weak bond fail faster.

Question 4

Can epoxy flooring handle heavy machinery or equipment?

Accepted Answer

Yes, when it’s done right. Tool chests, motorcycles, ATVs, and engine hoists are fine on commercial-grade epoxy at the right thickness with a tough topcoat. A hybrid system holds up even better under that load.

Question 5

What matters most for a long-lasting epoxy floor?

Accepted Answer

Prep, product quality, installer skill, and the conditions during the job. Proper grinding, crack repair, moisture testing, and clean edges give the coating a real bond. Good materials and an installer who controls heat, humidity, and mix ratios decide how long the floor lasts.

Question 6

What are the disadvantages of epoxy flooring?

Accepted Answer

Epoxy needs proper installation to avoid peeling or bubbling, and it is sensitive to moisture if the concrete was not prepared correctly. A standard finish can yellow under strong UV light, it takes time to cure, and repairs are harder than with tile. The right topcoat and a correct install take care of most of this.
