Stop Paying Membership Dues With a DIY Home Gym

Get a great workout at home while saving time and money. We would probably all have smaller waistlines if only going to the gym wasn’t such a hassle. You have to make the time to go, get motivated to travel both ways, and pay expensive monthly and yearly dues just for the privilege of using the facility.

What if there was a way you could get all the benefits of the gym without the ongoing cost and hassle? You can by setting up a DIY home gym, and it’s easier than you expect. Here are a few ideas to help you start getting fit in the comforts of your own home:

Convert Your Garage

If you are like a lot of people, your garage is just a space where you store stuff you rarely if ever use. By clearing some or all of it out, you can create an ample workout space without taking up any room in your home. With even a modest amount of space, you can set up both strength and cardio equipment that satisfies all your fitness goals. And since your garage has a huge door at ground level, it is especially easy to load big equipment in and out.

Use Your Guest Bedroom

The average guest bedroom gets used only a handful of times a year. The rest of the time it is just wasted space in your home. That makes it prime real estate for a DIY home gym. Depending on the size, you can put in weights or a treadmill and still allow it to be functional when you have someone staying overnight.

Head to the Basement

Whether finished or unfinished, your basement is a great place to set up a weight bench, exercise bike, or both. The equipment is out of the way and out of sight, and the naturally cool environment of the basement is great for working out. Just be sure that you have an entrance to the space that is big enough to move potentially bulky equipment down there.

Look in the Corner

If you are really cramped for space but want to ditch the gym for good, your bedroom might be the solution. If you have an unused sitting area or simply an empty corner somewhere in your bedroom, it could easily be used for a limited gym setup instead. The only drawback is that your bed might prove more enticing than the treadmill.
