Are Garage Floor Mats a Good Idea?
They can be, for the right situation. Mats are the most affordable and easiest option to install, roll them out and you’re done, which makes them popular for renters or anyone testing out garage flooring before committing to something permanent. They’re genuinely good at catching drips and protecting the concrete underneath from minor spills. Where they fall short is durability and appearance: mats can shift, curl at the edges, and show wear patterns from tire traffic much sooner than a bonded coating, and they need to be lifted and cleaned underneath periodically to prevent trapped moisture or debris. For a temporary or budget solution, mats are a reasonable choice. For a permanent upgrade, most homeowners eventually move to a bonded coating instead.
