Does epoxy flooring have strong fumes?
Yes, epoxy and polyaspartic coatings do have an odor during application, and it can be noticeable for the first day or two while everything cures. Polyaspartic topcoats generally off-gas faster than traditional epoxy, which is part of why professional installers favor them for occupied garages. Good ventilation during and after application makes a real difference, and most of the strongest odor is gone within 24 to 48 hours. It’s not something you need a respirator for as a homeowner walking past, but if you’re sensitive to strong smells, keeping the garage door open and avoiding the space for the first day is a reasonable precaution.
We can also talk through timing your installation for when it works best for your household. See our St. Louis epoxy flooring services for details on the process.
