What are the disadvantages of epoxy flooring?
Epoxy isn’t perfect for every garage. It can be slippery when wet unless a slip-resistant additive or textured flake finish is used, and it typically needs 24 to 72 hours of cure time before the garage is fully usable again. Proper installation also requires real surface preparation, diamond grinding and moisture testing, not just cleaning and rolling on a coating, which is why DIY kits often fail within a year or two. Extreme temperature swings during application can also affect cure quality if it isn’t installed by someone experienced with local conditions. None of these are dealbreakers, but they’re worth knowing before you commit to a coating.
Most of these issues come down to installation quality, not the material itself. See how our St. Louis epoxy flooring installation process handles prep, texture, and cure time to avoid them.
